Intergeo 2019 as we saw it
It was the first time in our company’s life to attend as an exhibitor at the biggest world expo of Geoinformatics, land surveying and asset management in Stuttgart. This is also the biggest GEO-IT event of the year as well.
Numbers of the 25th Intergeo were also extraordinary: 708 exhibitors, 1107
products, 3 huge halls in an area as big as a smaller city. Therefore it was
hard to get around all the booths in merit. There were 19 000 visitors by
the way.
Main subjects of this years event besides old school survey
equipment were the developments of UAVs, Smart City solutions, BIM modeling,
and in one-or-two places: AI.
INTERMAP took it’s part in hall no. 4, the so called Smart
City Pavilion, on a 17 m2 island stand, which was a lucky choice for both our
representatives and our visitors as the booth was easy to reach from any
direction and it was easy to see the the demonstration of ForteMapAI running on
a big screen in real time identifying the traffic signs and objects shown to it.
More curios professionals liked to play with the system, trying to test out the
capabilities, showing different kinds of objects from different countries,
covering them partly or twisting them different angles. ForteMapAI was up to the
challenge.
3 years ago at CEBIT we presented GeoMeter600, but now with
more significant developments just like the fully functioning AI feature
extraction module we shown the world something new.
This expo was preceded by a great preparation and work, yet
it was the first international challenge where we presented our technology at
the same platform with the major players in the industry from 5 continents of
the world especially our flagship mapping product the GeoMeter intelligent
mobile mapper.
The expo opened at 9 o’clock, but there was not too much
noise until 10 but what came after we can call a rush. Our three colleagues
were simultaniously showcasing products left without any time to visit the
other 707 booths.
People around the booth were interested in two things:
-
How can we reach such an accuracy without using
lidar?
-
With regards of efficiency how is it possible to
recognize 10k of objects and extract them classified daily?
They found this efficiency revolutionary new in the
industry.
Besides these two there was a third thing: the price which
they found surprisingly afordable.
Most of the visitors represented resellers, bigger or
smaller surveying companies from all over the world. The other half was public
road managers, city managers, highway managers, asset managers, utility
managers and monitoring companies. There were already inquiries for exclusive
reseller rights.
In regards of countries from Japan, China, India cross EU to
America, even an Australian reseller was represented.
Even the representatives of big players paid their duty at
our booth who were the main sponsors of the event (ie: Hexagon, Trimble, Autodesk…)
some of them with a surprising amount of colleagues.
The third day was all about comebacks who were interested in
future partnerships and the students and researchers of universities who want
to come work with us.
So we had time to visit other exhibitors with special
attention to our suppliers and competitors. We were surprised that the biggest suppliers
are just getting prepared for the age of AI in mobile mapping devices of course
there is a few startups and SMEs that are planning to introduce AI in some
fields of their systems.
Experiencing all of these we have the right to say that we are
one of the few outstanding companies integrating AI and Machine Learning in
their systems and this was confirmed by many representatives of big companies.
That is why it’s important to develop and fine tune our
systems based on these questions, demands and experiences as the base
technology proved to face a huge demand internationally.
Laser based mobile mappers are still popular but those are
10-15 times more both in weight and cost even without a processing software.
Prices of product parts i.e: cameras, sensors IMUs… were not
going south but improving a lot in performance.
We can say we are over a succesful exhibition with a huge
number of serious interested partners which must be redeemed with future hard
work and enthusiasm.
